The Keswick to Threlkeld railway trail features twice within our SixPack Challenge. On this route the trail takes you through the Bobbin Mill Tunnel as you head out of town with increasingly attractive vistas. There is one very tough climb on this route – it’s perfectly fine to walk this. But elevation will bring elation with more magnificent views and canopied woodland trails as we bring you back home.
Across the water, the famous silhouette of Cat Bells welcomes your woodland start and a sumptuous saunter that is about a flat a route as one could find in the Lake District. Myriad , forgiving trails provide a terrain full of delight. Boardwalks to beachcombing. Captivating!
Our rural ramble starts in Threlkeld on the outskirts of Keswick and, temptingly, starts by a pub. But we have work for you to do first! Within the shadows of the mighty Blencathra, your journey heads gently up by a lovely stream. Crossing the fields and stone wall stiles, you can enjoy panoramic views. You then head down to join a stunning section of the K 2 T railway trail before we guide you further along tracks that few walkers and runners tread. Now where was that pub again?!
Starting by the beautiful walled garden that was the inspiration for Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit, you too will be inspired by the stunning beauty and amazing vistas offered up by Derwent Water. Your outwards journey provides a close-up appreciation of this wonderful lake while you can view a higher perspective on your return. A couple of challenging climbs are absolutely worth it on this, our longest of the six challenge routes.
This lovely contrasting route initially delivers woodland wonder along pine-needle strewn trails before we take you closer to Bassenthwaite Lake, accompanied by a majestic backdrop of the north Cumbrian fells. Look out for the resident ospreys! Delightful.
Immersed within England’s only mountain forest, your SixPack Challenge route will definitely take your breath away! At times, as we give your heart and lungs a good workout, but often as we deliver jaw-dropping views. Sweeping pine fringed trails abound. Truly, you’ll enjoy a running high.
