A richly varied and flat route comprising constantly changing sections with glorious woodland trails to the fore. A council estate to savour.
With a coal-mining heritage, much of the country park was formerly used for landfill. Knowsley is twinned with the German town of Moers: hence the name of the park…and our route! Meandering and occasionally undulating, the 5K route is a delightful urban escape.
A Grade One listed park, Sefton Park’s sumptuous, curved trails and lakes may well be known to you. But our route also explores some of the more intimate water features whilst using woodland trail sections to link it all together.
A pan-flat clockwise loop that delivers a pleasurable urban escape from one of Liverpool’s iconic locations. The Leeds-Liverpool canal and sections of the Trans-Pennine Trail ensure that the going will always be good. Just the two legs required as you pass under the famous Melling Road and towards a photo finish!
We say: a great way for Liverpool to promote itself to runners (and walkers). From the magnificence of the River Mersey – with accompanying distant views of Snowdonia to the tranquil confines of the Festival Gardens. From promenade to woodland trails, this route is one for all seasons.
Time to get on our soapbox and shout about this fascinating route. It starts almost opposite the set of the TV soap, Hollyoaks before escorting you into the gorgeous Childwall Woods. There’s time to take in a short section of the Liverpool Loop Line before the finish. Time to relax before the next episode of your SixPack Challenge.
