This hidden gem is near the village of Langwith, where you can run or walk on well surfaced limestone paths that meander through maturing plantations and wildflower meadows. Our wandering, contouring route takes in many of the community arts projects that comprise the ‘Art along the Way’ sculpture trail.
Mines, lines and pines. We think this route really has it all, lying, as it does in the shadows of the headstocks of Clipstone Colliery. If you like variety then you’ll love this SixPack Challenge. Industrial mining heritage in spades, a crafty little taster within Clipstone Forest and a steady final climb, rewarded by a superb view.
Lovely, varied and undulating 5km route on largely excellent paths and trails and delivering some rewarding views to boot. Excellent visitor centre facilities and things to do for SixPacker family and friends, whatever their age. A wonderful example of land reclamation and regeneration.
A circular route of three former railways lines on the Nottinghamshire / Derbyshire border offers serene, pan-flat running before the route-ending foray into the site of the former Silverhill and Teversal collieries, and a truly stunning ascent to the ‘Testing for Gas’ sculpture that overlooks Silverhill Country Park. Silver Lining is the name. We say, a 10km route and experience that is gold-plated.
Close to the heart of Mansfield, our town-centric ‘secret’ green corridor loop constantly changes and pleases with a multi-surface circuit that is a flat, fascinating and fun-filled exploration as we enjoy the company of the River Maun. Much of the route is on well surfaced or firm trails so ordinary trainers will suffice unless there has been prolonged wet weather.
A beautiful eco-friendly park run by Newstead Enterprise – a company created by the community in Newstead Village. Situated on the site of the former colliery pit tips, the gently undulating route delivers magnificent views from above whilst constantly being reminded of its industrial heritage. Varied and mixed paths and trails. Trail shoes recommended.
